East Coast Adventure

This is a ten hour adventure. Our day will start any time after 5.00 a.m. that you prefer. The earlier the better. Our aim is to get to our first stop on the East Coast as close to sunrise as possible.

There we will eat breakfast before proceeding in a leisurely manner down the east coast, birding as we go through the Cocal to Kernahan Village. There will be an opportunity to walk along the beach, but not to bathe in the water. This is our Atlantic Coast. The waters here can be very dangerous and there are no life guards where we are going.

We will head further south down the coast after Kernahan but the rest of the trip will be a mystery tour with a stop for lunch. On our return journey to Port of Spain we will have another mystery stop, weather and time permitting.

Jabiru Stork (Jabiru mycteria) a very rare visitor to Trinidad
Northern Crested Caracara (Caracara cheriway) perched in a coconut tree
Long-winged Harrier (Circus buffoni) being chased by two male Yellow-hooded Blackbirds (Chrysomus icterocephalus icterocephalus)

Spectacled Caiman (Caiman crocodilus)

WHAT YOU NEED

You can dress casually for this adventure. Some walking is involved part of which may be muddy and a change of footwear is strongly recommended. I usually wear a short sleeve shirt, shorts, sandals, a hat and insect repellent. For this adventure I also carry trousers and walking boots and change if necessary. If you are particularly susceptible to bad reactions to insects, I recommend a long sleeve shirt, trousers and shoes. A hat is always a good idea as their is no significant shade in the areas will be travelling through. Bring your favourite bug spray. I will provide binoculars to share but don’t forget your camera.

DURING OUR ADVENTURE

Please be aware there are very few comfort stops available in this area. We will stop at them as we pass but you may have to use the same facilities as the birds and the bees. I carry the necessary tissue, hand sanitiser and water.

DEPARTURE

We will leave the East Coast after lunch and head for Port of Spain and hopefully have time for another mystery stop and some more birding on the way back to your accommodation after our adventure.

US$100.00 Per person (Minimum of two people)

My fee includes local breakfast and lunch and too much information! Fees are payable at the start of the tour… not because I don’t trust you, but it’s good to get the money thing out of the way before we begin our adventure.

Additional Cost

There are no additional costs for this adventure.
